The ARM Board of Directors met for their quarterly meeting on April 17 and approved actions including revising the FY 2008 budget and authorizing the use of reserve funds for cash flow purposes. The Board reviewed a draft FY 2009 budget that will be considered at the July meeting of the Board of Directors; authorized the Aggregate Division to contract with a consultant to prepare the submmission of comments to the proposed MPCA Industrial Stormwater permits in conjunction with the Minnesota Asphalt Pavers Association and AGC of Minnesota; approved ARM participation in a Minnesota Aggregate and Concrete Industry Safety Council in conjunction with the Midwest Precast Association and the Minnesota Concrete Masonry Association; authorized ARM to extend the office lease with Lehigh Cement; and postponed the proposed ARM Office and Training Center project until market conditions improve and a Capital Campaign can be organized. |

| Safety Council Holds First Meeting | |||||||
Close to 30 people attended the first meeting of the newly formed Minnesota Aggregate and Concrete Industry Safety Council which was held Tuesday, April 8th at the Holiday Inn in Maple Grove. Guest speaker was Andy Smoka, Principal Safety Consultant at Minnesota OSHA, who presented a general overview of the AWAIR program. Fred Corrigan, Executive Director of the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota, provided a recap of the NSSGA & MSHA 2008 Spring Thaw Seminar. | Storm Resistant Homes & Buildings Seminar Well Attended! | |||||||
Sixty-five architects, engineers, building officials and industry representatives gathered at the Eagan Community Center on April 9th for the Storm Resistant Concrete Homes and Buildings Seminar that was sponsored locally by ARM, MPA and MCMA. The topics and speakers at the seminar included:

| Concrete Open Scheduled for June 3rd | |||||||
The 13th Annual Concrete Open will be held June 3rd at The Legends Club in Prior Lake. The event has sold out already for this year, but you can contact the ARM office regarding a wait list. Contact the ARM office about hole sponsorship opportunities. This year, Concrete Open wind vests and jackets are being made available. They are khaki with a navy stripe on the ribbing. They have a microfiber shell, and are wind and water resistant with a lightweight nylon lining. They are machine washable. The Concrete Open logo will be embroidered on the chest of the vest in blue, green and white thread. They come in sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. Orders placed before May 1st will be ready in time for the outing. Orders placed after May 1st cannot be guaranteed to be delivered in time for the Concrete Open. |

| ARM Ready Mix Division Meeting Scheduled | |||||||
The ARM Board of Directors has scheduled a meeting of the ARM Ready Mix Division on Thursday, May 1st at 10:00 AM at the ARM Office. The meeting will update the Ready Mix Producers on the proposed MPCA Waste Water permit scheduled to go into effect on August 1, 2008 and will specifically seek to determine an ARM position on proposed regulations regarding concrete washout areas. ARM members are strongly encouraged to not make any commitments to builders or developers regarding responsibility for concrete washout areas under the proposed regulations until ARM has developed a position. Ready Mix Producers will also be updated on a new MPCA storm water permit and Dave Fennessy will give an update on ARM parking lot and residential concrete promotions. The Ready Mix Division is made up of Ready Mix Producer Members of ARM who are the only voting members of this Division. However, non-ready mix producer members are also welcome to attend this meeting. Division meetings are only called when an issue of importance to ready mix producers comes up that is beyond the scope of other ARM committees. |

| Wright County Aggregate Committee Hears from ARM | |||||||
ARM Executive Director Fred Corrigan and Heather Arends from the DNR were invited to speak to the Wright County Aggregate Committee as they study the possibility of a mining land use district for the Northeast Quadrant of Wright Country. The committee was given an update on aggregate resources throughout Minnesota and an overview of what other counties are doing with aggregate overlay districts. |

| ARM Staff Member to Attend Professional Promoters Workshop | |||||||
ARMs Promotions Director, Dave Fennessy, is scheduled to attend the Professional Promoters Workshop May 5-7th at the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg, IL. The workshop is presented by ASCC, ACPA, CRSI, NCMA, NRMCA, PCA and PCI and will cover a broad range of topics, including sustainability, paving, pervious concrete, local codes, funding, economic outlook, strategic planning and local government affairs. The event will be more interactive than ever through expanded use of "What Works" presentations, roundtables and concurrent sessions.
